The FEU Hospital
(now referred to as the FEU-NRMF Medical Center )
celebrates its 50 th anniversary October 21-22, 2005
at its present sprawling medical complex in West
Fairview, Quezon City . Its theme was “Living
Up to Our Legacy: Excellence in health Care.”
Built and equipped
at a cost of P 1.5 million, the 5-storey FEU Hospital
on Morayta Street in Manila , opened its doors October
22, 1955, with 125 charity beds 56 pay patient beds,
and 28 bassinets. The architect was Felipe M. Mendoza,
who worked in cooperation with the Hospital Committee
chaired by Dr. Lauro H. Panganiban, Nicanor Reyes, Jr.,
Angel Palanca, and Dr. Ricardo L. Alfonso, who became
its first Hospital Director.
After the
motorcade along Commonwealth Avenue and Fairview
, a Holy Mass followed at the FEU-NRMF Chapel in
the Dr. Ricardo L. Alfonso Hall, officiated by Bishop
Antonio Tobias. The launching of the commemorative
book, “Gift of Healing,” authored by Marisse Reyes-McMurray,
was followed by the Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies by Dr.
Josephine C. Reyes, FEU-NRMF Chairman, assisted by
the Members of the Board of Trustees, IM Dean Remedios
Habacon, M. D. , and Hospital Director, Rey de Vega,
M.D.
During these
festivities, the FEU-NRMF Pioneer Award was bestowed
upon the following original members of the faculty,
the “Old Guards”: Doctors Atilano Batista,
Jose Chavez, Leticia Cordero, Julita Denoga, Estrella
de Leon, Fe del Mundo, Cipriano delos Reyes, Eugenio
Garcia, Perpetuo Gutierrez, Rosario Gutierrez, Jose
Inoturan, Luz Juliano, Manuel Mapue, Julian Mendoza,
Ramon Ongciako, Artemio Pascual, Zenaida Pilapil. Jane
Puertollano, Pedro Ramirez, Angelina Santos, Jose Velez,
and Leoncio Yatco.
After
lunch, the cultural presentation, and the recognition
of other service awardees, the celebration ended with
a Fellowship Night, with the nostalgic theme “Retro ‘50s
and 60s.”
